Performing Arts Program

MVLE Moves

In 2015, MVLE partnered with BodyWise Dance to create the MVLE Moves program which provides weekly movement arts classes for individuals served through MVLE’s programs. A typical class includes a group welcome to practice making introductions, a clapping warm-up to promote rhythmic accuracy and proprioception, a full body stretch to increase overall range of motion, prop manipulation to practice both sensory motor skills and create short movement compositions, extended ‘parade’ improvisations that encourage personal decision-making, and a gentle closing to calm the breath and bow to fellow class mates. Participants dive into improvisation and composition, sharing methods that realize ideas, co-creating the experience every step of the way.

Morning Moves 2.0

In response to COVID-19, the program has gone virtual and we conduct daily movement classes online. We deliver and tailor these sessions, called Morning Moves, to help participants not only see and talk to others but to remotely develop skills that will serve them now and as quarantine restrictions lift and they return to work.

Classes are free and open to the general public. If you are interested in participating in Morning Moves please contact Margot Greenlee at mgdance@hotmail.com.

Inclusive Performance Arts Troupe

MVLE Moves debuted its inaugural performance project with the production ‘Everyday Oz’ in spring 2017. Professional choreographer and director, Margot Greenlee collaborated with clients and staff to create ‘Everyday Oz’. The cast included local professional actors and Individuals from MVLE’s programs. The production gave cast members the full experience of performing a project of their own creation alongside professional performers. The 2018 season included our original production, ‘All About Dogs,” which toured across Northern Virginia for eleven performances to over 670 community audience members.
